Starting up a Airline
Lets Take Eastern Air lines for example:
How i would run that carrier.
While Eastern Air lines choice for the 737-800NG and MAX aircraft are great i believe that the order is miss applied. For if you want to beat your competition you must be able to operate out of secondary airports that they can't serve. My Aircraft choice would be the 737-700/800SFP.
WHY THE 737-SFP?
SFP=Short Field Performance
The SFP designed by Boeing can land on 4,300Ft runways and takeoff from 4,300Ft Runways making it ideal for non-stop service to secondary airports serving major South American and north American Cities with very short runways not served by the major carriers. This would allow a start-up like Eastern Air Lines to Provide Service from airports like Trenton Mercer, Westchester, Islip, PVD-Providence T.F. Green to San Juan/PR.
I would order the following:
(20) 737-700SFP & (10) 737-800SFP
Secondly I of would not pick Miami International as my main hub as any carrier operating of Miami will loose to American. No My Hub Choice would be Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan.
You may ask why i think San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is the perfect choice as a first hub for a start-up carrier as there is a lot of competition to San Juan from the United States. And yes I realize that this is Hub to American Airlines!!
How to Service San Juan as a start up.
There are many destinations with little or no competition from South America.
Lima/Peru, Quito/Ecuador, Valencia/Venezuela, Bogota/Columbia, Fortaleza/Brazil, Georgetown/Guyana, Cuzco/Peru, Sao Paulo/Brazil on to North American Destinations like Trenton Mercer -- Hanscom/Boston Westchester -- Buffalo/NY, Islip -- PVD-Providence T.F. Green, MIA, PBI -- La Guardia
I would cancel the MRJ-90 for 40 aircraft. Doing so would allow Eastern the financial ability to Order 78 Regional Turboprops like the Dash8-Q400 & 4 Twin Otter 400 series.
I would cancel the MRJ-90
Turboprop Fleet
Dash8-Q400 Plus
Also I believe that Eastern as American and Delta should continue to press Boeing harder for the 757 replacement aircraft the 737-10MAX.
